So I decided to take it behind the scenes and show you how it all goes down. It was a rainy day here in Long Beach and I wasn’t interested in going out. Gia called to order 2 dozen 2Mex Tamales and it was the perfect project for a rainy day

This was my second attempt at Ustreaming a live cooking show. The first attempt was a 6 hour Thanksgiving Extravaganza, complete with video & sound problems and lots of cursing (sorry Mom!)

Ciyah the Cat

If you’ve been to my house, I’m sure you’ve noticed the coolest, most mellow cat around. She is small, I call her my midget cat and she is sweet as pie. Today I discovered a large wound & took her to the vet immediately. They took one look & said, “Oh, thats not good!” Now she is in surgery, hopefully they can clean her up and get her on the mend. Anywho, just wanted to ask my readers to pray or meditate for her recovery and for the recovery of my bank account

******UPDATE******

We are home from the vet & emergency, bank-draining surgery. The cat is alive & well, she’s alive but she hates her life right now. The collar she is wearing freaks her out so she’s been moonwalking backwards around the apartment. I don’t think she can eat or drink too well but she doesn’t want me to touch her or ever look at her for that matter. Lets hope the stitches come out soon so she can have her life back.

We Are NOT Amused!Long live the Queen… Mos Def salutes you!

The Cajun Chef – Justin Wilson

People always ask me how I learned to cook. I must say, I’ve always loved to eat. So cooking just grew out of that desire. When I was in 4th or 5th grade, CABLE TV came to our neighborhood! Now instead of 7 network channels & some rabbit ears, we had 100 stations and great reception. I was like Jim Carey in Cable Guy loading my brain with hours of couch potato, brain numbing cable tv. I feel like my grandma now… “back in my day, we didn’t have…” cable tv. During the early days of Cable, I loved to watch cooking shows and my favorite was The Cajun Chef with Justin Wilson. I used to loooveeeee it when he said, “I Garontee”, I used to say it myself all the time to get laughs out of people. Anywho, my friends Katie & Linda from my street Zion Ct. would come over to my house & we would film imaginary cooking shows while actually cooking real food. Grandma always let us do our thing. My Grandma O’Neill lived with us half the year and half the year in New Jersey or Virginia. While she was with us, she always loved any action in the kitchen. You shoulda seen the excitment in her eyes when she would make her famous Sausae & Peppers recipe. I think her zest for cooking rubbed off on me.

Do you guys remember Justin Wilson?

This one’s for Lastman! The Cajun Chef talkes about Squirrel Hunting

Just gonna get a little wiinneeee

Ok one more. “In’t dat a beauty? In’t dat a beautiful red snapper, I garontee that she fine wooonnnnn!”

After pursuing a career as a safety engineer, Justin traveled up and down the bayous for years telling Cajun stories. He found an ever-growing market for his tales, and was finally persuaded to put them on record so that a vast number of people could enjoy them. That very first album sold more than a million copies. I just bought my copy & I’m so excited to get it in the mail!

He described himself most often as a “damn good cook”! And it was his Cajun cooking that gained him the most notoriety. The author of seven best-selling Cajun cookbooks and two books of humorous Cajun stories, his cooking series were aired from coast-to-coast on Public Television and worldwide on Armed Services television. Justin died September 5, 2001. Check out his website for more info.

Thank you Mr. Wilson for being such a crazy old man and one of my inspirations in the kitchen! Rest in Peace.

Thank you to my Grandma O’Neill “Gram” for being such a crazy old lady and also an inspiration in the kitchen. Rest in Peace.

Speaking of “damn good cooks” look what Raekwon tweeted about me the other night… I’m still blushing!

Sade is Back!!!

I remember being a little girl and my mom went to the Chino Library to rent Sade cassettes. We played them over and over before we had to return them. It was at that time that I fell in love with Sade’s music. Its been nearly 10 years since she released her last album Lover’s Rock. I bought a 12″ single of By Your Side with a Neptunes remix at VIP records back in the day. That’s the last time I got some new Sade in my life. I was starting to get worried that she had retired from the music biz. Today I am excited to learn that Sade will be releasing her 6th album SOILDER OF LOVE in February 2010! I can’t wait, Sade’s voice has a magical tone that cures all ills.

Check out her website www.sade.com to pre-order your copy and find out news about Sade. I would like to add this post to my Wishlist… I’ve never been to a Sade concert and its one of those things I want to do before I die. So when she goes on tour, I’m just putting it out there… I’d love to go!!!

New single here… you will bugg out! So glad she is back

The only book I’ve ever stolen in my life  was “Steal This Book” by Abbie Hoffman. It was at the WOW store by the Marina Pacifica in Long Beach. I used to go there all the time in college to look at all the great art books and magazines for inspiration. I came across this book and stole it just for shits-n-giggles. I never actually got around to reading it though.

So anyways, this summer I was on a road trip with my fabulous O’Neill cousins Kristi & Kelly. We drove from Oregon to Long Beach on Highway 1 which is along the coast the entire way. It was the 4th day of the trip and we were in the car driving allll day. We decided to stop at a little place called Café Aquatica to grab a bite to eat but when we got inside, it was hot and smelled like fish… not a good combination. As I turned to walk out the door, I noticed a book sitting on the waiting bench. I don’t know what possessed me, but I snatched it up and walked out the door. I think it belonged to someone who was waiting, I really don’t know why I stole it… I’m not a thief. I’m sorry to who it belonged to & will even return it gladly. When we got back to the car I finally opened the VELVET cover and found some funny shit inside… literally!

SPRINKLE BRIGADE VOLUME 1: NEW YOURK STATE OF MIND

This book is a great conversation piece and has brought lots of laughs around my house. Get one for yourself or as a gift on Amazon… its FUNNY SHIT!!!

This is how it all goes down in LONG BEACH

Long Beach constantly amazes me… God I love this city and the amazing people that live in it! Last night a friend invited me out to the Shore Ultra Lounge and I agreed but didn’t really feel like it. On a whim, I got ready and went. It wasn’t until Leslie picked me up that I found out the line up! Rickshaw was playing and all the fam was there. Judd Nester, Phil Marshall, Philieano, Mike Long, the list goes on and on. Here is the evening in a nutshell and Philieano was the Cherry On Top of this post with Run Come. Long Beach Rocks!

and Barikuda was there to film it all! It was good seeing all the Long Beach fam out enjoying music in the rough economy. Here are some videos of the night. I don’t know the first two bands but the last band is Rickshaw: Phil Marshall, Mike Long, Ed, John T. Jud Nester & Tim Wu. (Did I miss anyone?) On vocals were: Jud Nester, Philieano, Danger & Tim Wu a little.

In case you missed it, here is Run Come with the heckler knock out from Barikuda’s camera

Thanks Philieano for the entertainment and thank you Leslie for making me go out!
