So I get a text message early in the morning asking if I could make a cake for DJ Houseshoes that night at Little Temple. I had the day off and decided SURE, I’d love to! Instantly thoughts of carving cake into the shape of some house shoes came to mind. I got to the point where I was imagining piping on frosting to look like courderoy when the homie Byze started telling me about Houseshoes obsession with Newport cigarettes. Thats brilliant, a Newport Cake!
I set out to the store to buy all the necessary supplies. I had never made a cake using fondant before and I didnt have time to fuck up! I had exactly enough time to make one cake, right; and deliver it to the Little Temple by Midnight. I didn’t even have time to curl my hair or get dressed up. I literally made the cake right up until we walked the door and then I had to drive like a madwoman to get it to LA in time. Here are some pics of what ensued.

So I decided to take it behind the scenes and show you how it all goes down. It was a rainy day here in Long Beach and I wasn’t interested in going out. Gia called to order 2 dozen 2Mex Tamales and it was the perfect project for a rainy day
This was my second attempt at Ustreaming a live cooking show. The first attempt was a 6 hour Thanksgiving Extravaganza, complete with video & sound problems and lots of cursing (sorry Mom!)
I’ve wanted to Ustream a cooking show for sometime now but never got around to it. Two days before Thanksgiving I decided to just go for it. I’ve never done a cooking show before and didn’t really know the logistics of lighting and sound & food prep. Despite my lack of preparation, I did it. The homey Big Krunch came thru and filmed it big movie style and for the most part… it worked. There were a few sound & video lapses but hey! The broadcast ended up being 6 hours long and I showed how to cook all the traditional dishes. On the menu this night we had Turkey, Sweet Potatoes, Cornbread Stuffing, Garlic Parmesan Mashed Potatoes, Baked Mac & Cheese, Collard Greens, Gravy, Rolls and of course PIE. I sold plates of the yummy goodness to cover my expenses at $11 a pop and folks were happy. DJ Deps put it down on the 1’s & 2’s. Meserak was my sous chef. Yassi came for a goodbye dinner with Leslie before leaving to Belize. Eric Bobo, Raten5Star & Aaron came down from far away to get their grub on. Jonas Lynch & Hahk2 were in the house and Jude brought Lonne for a birthday dinner. It was a wonderful evening, here are some flicks…
