Last month I went to the Eagle Rock Music Festival. On that day I was the “team mom” for Buyepongo; who was performing on the Dub Lab stage. On the way there I had no idea how big a deal it would be. There were thousands of people packing the streets and the full moon was looking over us before the sun even went down. Shortly after we arrived, the Gaslamp Killer rocked an amazing dj set (as always) with a bellydancer interpreting it all on stage. Up after that was the Michael White Quintet. Michael White is old as shit, but he was up there ROCKING the stage with the agility of a youngster and the skill of a master. Next up were the dj’s from Mas Exitos. I had a lot of fun taking pictures of them because the visual projections behind them were so dope! Finally it was time for Buyepongo and they really got the crowd dancing. It was cool to see the whole crown bouncing and twirling to cumbia. Afterwards the Dub Lab Sound System closed out the night. Enough words though, check out my photos of the night…

Last thursday we went to Mas Exitos to celebrate the birthday of Carlitos Diaz, one of the drummers from Buyepongo. The band (Buyepongo) decided to do a surprise performance for the Mas Exitos crowd to celebrate. Dj’s Lengua, Ganas, Enorbito, Chico Sonido & Hoseh started Mas Exitos in June of 08 at Verdugo Bar. The venue is dope and the music vibe even fresher. Mas Exitos is a bi-weekly event that traces the connections between the music made on both continents of the Americas by exploring the various migration patterns through sound. Think of it as a National Geographic documentary on sound that will take you from the Andes of Peru to the East Side of LA. From fuzzy cumbias, to funky jazz oddities, to disco azteca, rock n’ rolleras, paisadelic, psychedelic freak outs and janky electro beats…

Here are some flicks of the evening:

Happy Birthday Carlitos!
